The Gizzle Wap and the Great Blizzard (15-12-2016) (A2600 Game)

Mountain King updated his new WIP Atari VCS game The Gizzle Wap and the Great Blizzard.

It’s the holidays in Sundra. A great blizzard hit the land suddenly trapping anyone that was unfortunate enough to be caught outside. You play as the Gizzle Wap and the Moum Moum searching the land for survivors. Move the Gizzle Wap left and right and press up to jump. The Moum Moum will follow. Press the fire button to dig in the snow to search.

Listen closely to the Moum Moum. He has a better sense of where a creature might be buried. Dig where he sings. You may have to scan an area more than once to find something. He will not sing if he is standing on the Gizzle Wap or if he is too high in the sky.

Changes:

1. Implemented a damage routine (not fully refined yet). Bars will flash red if the Gizzle Wap takes damage and Yellow if the Moum Moum takes damage. Also you will hear them make a sound if they are hit.
2. The left health bar is the Moum Moum’s life the right health bar is the Gizzle Wap’s
3. The Gizzle Wap and the Moum Moum will take damage if hit by the Crab, Ghost and Cruncher.
4. Added a firn vortex that flies across the screen. Avoid it. It will hurt you.
5. Both the Gizzle Wap and Moum Moum will take damage over time from the cold.

I had originally expected, even when thinking of targeting a dozen or more platforms, to create several Atari 2600 games before tiring of it … but I have been researching the Atari 8 bit recently and I am keen to get to this platform sooner rather than later… so this is the end of the Atari 2600 work for a while.

Crash Course (14-12-2016) (A2600 Game)

Crash Course is a brandnew Atari VCS game by Captain Spazer.

You drive a car on a road and try to dodge cars as you drive past them. The goal is to reach the top of the screen which will raise the difficulty making the cars go even faster. You get 3 missiles to shoot down the other cars in your way, but you only get 3 missiles, they can be refilled by reaching the top of the screen. Controls are: left and right to jump lanes, firebutton to fire your missiles, switchreset to start the game from the titlescreen, restart in the game and at the Game Over screen

Denial ’77 (26-09-2016) (A2600 Game)

Yet another project by Wally, just a little bit older than the previous one, is Denial ’77. The game is loosely modelled on Space Zap, an arcade game from 1980.

You’re protecting the base in the centre, move the joystick in the direction you want to fire. The base heats up when you fire, changing colour and expanding. The base firing rate slows as the base heats up. The base also heats up when hit. It’s game over if the base hit when it is overheated. The level number is the only scoring mechanism.

Sword of Iffrit (Beta 12-12-2016) (A2600 Game)

ultima (before known as rpgfaker) updated his action game Sword of Iffrit from 2009. Loki the God of Mischief has stolen the sword of Surtr and split it into 3 pieces. You play as the viking Haldor on your quest to find the sword fragments and return them to your longhouse.

Release notes:

Fixed the fake sword in game 1 along with some code cleanup. But I now need to figure out how to free up bank 8 it seems alone in a new bank has about 2700 bytes but in the 32k it only has 140 bytes anyway here’s an update.

Changes:

1. Fixed the Crab and the Sleepy ghost. They fall into the holes better.
2. Fixed an exploit where you could dig up the same spot over and over again.
3. Fixed the dog, he no longer wraps around to the other side of the screen.
4. The Moum Moum keeps his wings out when returning to the Gizzle Wap.
5. All Creatures are animated and act differently when you rescue them.

The Gizzle Wap and The Strange Red Tree (Update 88) (A2600 Game)

The Gizzle Wap and The Strange Red Tree is a game for Atari VCS by Mountain King.

Deep in the JThainian forest, in the clearing where the Zazzle Flies play a Strange Red Tree took root over night. It made an unsettling hum and gave off a noxious odor poisoning many of the flies. Camy, the strongest of his brood sought help from the defender of the woods, a small bouncing creature known as the Gizzle Wap. He would know what to do.

The Gizzle Waps solution was simple: Remove the Strange Red Tree. But there was another problem. Coinciding with the appearance of the red tree came the Myrmica a race of mindless insects that feed upon the inhabitants of the forest. Even worse the Myrmica never come alone. They serve the Invicta. Unlike the Myrmica, the Invicta are cunning and tenacious. They will not be satisfied until they control the entire forest or see its destruction. The tree is most certainly their machination.

The plan to remove the tree and defeat the Invicta was not as simple. The only creatures strong enough to pull the tree out of the ground are the Pegsi. The Gizzle Wap would attract the Pegsi to the clearing with cloud fruit and convince them to remove the Red Tree. Once the tree has been removed, the Invctas magic will be weakened and their lair should be revealed. The final step will be to confront the Invicta.

Changes:

1. Fixed a bug where you would die in the final screen.
2. Fixed a bug where the wasp would eat ALL your fruit. Made the final levels almost impossible.
3. Removed the continue feature. It doesn’t work the way I wanted it to.
