PyPPP v0.2.3 (Openmoko Application)

PyPPP: Manage PPP connections over GPRS. A GUI to pon and poff commands with a counter of transmitedd and received bytes. Show pppd and chat log for connection feedback.

Release notes:

Start and stop GPRS connection with pppd, without GSM multiplexing.

Improved performances and Om2008 compatibility. Now displays ppp and chat log without using an external (slow) script. Does not require GSM multiplexing: stop Qtopia qpe process before doing the ppp call and restart it on disconnect. Works with Om2007 and gsmd too.

Orrery v2.4 (Openmoko Application)

Orrery by Ken Young is an astronomical application which displays the night sky, along with (optionally) such things are the galactic plane, etc. Constellations may also be shown.

Release notes:

Added a Solar System Schematic View page. It can be accessed via the opts menu. It shows the positions of the earth, moon and planets in their orbits around the sun. The orbital and planet radii are not drawn to scale.

Added one-month Moon phase calendar. The older 21 month calendar is still present.

New, less ugly, icon.

When one unzooms, the center azimuth is now forced to be a multiple of 5 degrees. This matches the size of the unzoomed step quantum, and makes it possible to pan to an exact cardinal point direction, including the original due south orientation.

Bug Fixes:

I referred to the Last Quarter phase of the moon as Third Quarter in one display. Fixed that.

Very small bug fix in the big moon calendar that occasionally prevented the current month from being highlighted.

New Rotate v0.5.3 (Openmoko Application)

Rotate is one of the applications that runs on the Openmoko Phones. It’s a quick and simple C program that reads a packet from the accelerometer once per second, and rotates the screen to a new orientation if the orientation has changed.

New Rotate by Rui Seabra is a rewrite of this application, aiming to make it, of course, better.

Release notes:

Today I released omnewrotate 0.5.3, which fixes issue 4.

As I was starting to investigate libframeworkd-glib, that dependency was a problem for usage in the recently released Om2008.12 (basically, it wouldn’t run at all).

As such, I added a “–without-frameworkd” to the ./configure script, which I used for building the ipk of this release (OpenPGP sig).

Another good thing about this release, is that its tar ball (OpenPGP sig) is now the result of make dist. This should be a great bonus for integration with hackable:1, which is still using a pretty old version of omnewrotate. Just don’t forget to include “–without-frameworkd” in the configure process (I plan to have this detection done automatically in the future).

Enjoy!
