Super Nintendo Entertainment System News
The 700 Club (SNES Musicdisk)

The 700 Club is a music disk for the Super Nintend Entertainment System / Super Famicom by mic.

Release notes:

A while back I wrote a VGM playback driver for the SPC (S-SMP/S-DSP, i.e. the sound chip found in the SNES), which I released along with a tool that converted .vgm/.vgz files into .spc files. You can find it here ( http://jiggawatt.org/badc0de/vgm2spc-2.zip ) (source code included).

Anyway, I decided to put together a SNES-side GUI and create a musicdisk with some hand-picked tunes from the Sega Master System & Game Gear, much like Oxygene ( http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=3816 ) and Censor ( http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=2462 ) have done in the past for other formats.

This is the result of that work. Tested only on a PAL SNES unit, and in BSNES. Please don’t use ZSNES or Snes9x – both of them had atrocious sound emulation last time I checked.

Here’s a youtube clip ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxY61EPvREU ) recorded from my SNES for those of you who can’t be arsed to run BSNES or put the ROM on a flash cart.

N-Warp Daisakusen v1.1 (SNES Game Source Code)

N-Warp Daisakusen is a deathmatch minigame for eight human players. Connect two Multitaps and eight joypads to your SNES, invite some friends and compete for the first place by beating and kicking the shit out of the other players.

d4s, the author of this game, decided to release the source code to the public. May it help the extremly slow growing SNES/Super Famicom scene!

Skipp and Friends (SNES Game)

Skipp and Friends by Mukunda Johnson, Ken Snyder, Steven Velema and Hubert Lamontagne is a game entered in the recently held PDRoms Coding Competition v4.01 ( http://pdroms.de/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=105 ) – sponsored by http://shop.gp2x.dehttp://www.flashlinker-shop.comhttp://www.superfighter.comhttp://www.gamekool.comhttp://www.slanina.pl & ph0x.

The object of the game is to move all three characters to the EXIT in each level. Each player has 2 limited special abilities that you may use to help advance through the level. The in-game status bar displays the name of each ability and how many times it can be used during that level.

For example, Apple’s two abilities are CARDKEY and SCREAM. Using CARDKEY next to a door will cause it to open and detract one CARDKEY point (you need at least one point to open a door). Her SCREAM stuns nearby enemies for a short period of time.

All three players must be alive and to the exit to complete the level. If you get yourself stuck, press START to pause and then SELECT to restart the level.

After you complete each level a 4 letter password is given to you so that you may resume the game using the Password option at the title screen, after your system has been shut off.

PDRoms Coding Competition v4.01 (SNES misc)

It’s reality again, here comes PDROMS CODING COMPETITION v4.01 – Retro Coding Fun for Console and Handhelds!

Coding on “closed” handhelds or consoles must not be a privilege; dozens of free development kits proof the opposite. The steadily growing “homebrew scene” produces unlicensed software for devices not meant to be open for everyone.

PDRoms has always been in the homebrew scene to support the creation of new homebrew software, support programmers and artists. To show our love to the homebrew scene once again, here comes the ninth PDRoms Coding Competition.

Here is the brief data:

Topic: Create a logic/puzzle game
Competition running time: Thursday, 02 April 2009 to Sunday, 31st May 2009

WLA DX v9.4a (08-04-2008) (SNES misc)

WLA DX has stagnated a lot recently but there has been progress since the last time (November 2006). WLA DX is a Macro Assembler Package for GB-Z80/Z80/6502/65C02/6510/65816/HUC6280/SPC-700 and was written by Ville Helin.

Changes:

– data filtering macros (looks useful for non-standard string encoding)
– Mersenne Twister random numbers (not that you’d use them much at compile-time)
– Label and line number bugfixes
