The Intellivision is a second-generation home video game console released by Mattel Electronics in 1979 in test markets and nationwide in the United States in 1980. Powered by a 0.895 MHz General Instrument CP1600 16-bit CPU with 1,456 bytes of RAM (including Scratchpad, System, and Graphics RAM) and 6 KB Executive ROM, it features a Standard Television Interface Chip (STIC) driving a 160 x192 resolution display with a 16-color palette alongside a General Instrument AY-3-8914 sound chip providing 3-channel audio. It utilizes ROM cartridges for software and features two hardwired controllers with 12-key numeric keypads, side action buttons, and 16-directional control discs supporting slide-in game overlays.
