Android is Google’s open-source, Linux-based mobile operating system, first commercially released in 2008 on the HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1). Built for touchscreen devices, the initial system ran on a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor with 192 MB RAM, featuring a 320 x 480 display, multi-tasking, and app expansion through the Android Market.
