Privacy Policy & Disclaimer

PRIVACY POLICY

The privacy of our users is important to us; therefore, we do our very best to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union. Our server is located in Germany, EU. If you have suggestions on how we can improve, we would be pleased to receive your feedback.

This website and all its services can be used free of charge, for informational purposes. There is no subscription or any other paid service. We reserve the right to take this website and its associated services offline at any time, without prior notice.

  • PDRoms supports and recommends HTTPS.
  • We collect server data locally. IP addresses are stored for a period of two months for the sole purpose of blocking malicious or suspicious actions, thereby protecting our server and the data of our users. The legal basis for the server data described above (IP address logging, malicious-traffic blocking) is our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in keeping this server secure and available.
  • We use the existing Spamhaus Block List (โ€œSBLโ€) to pre-block access to our servers. If we detect a spammer ourselves, we block the IP address locally. We do not report or submit any data to Spamhaus or any other third party.
  • We use the existing Spamhaus Exploits Block List (โ€œXBLโ€) to pre-block access to our servers. If we detect malicious activity ourselves, we block the IP address locally. We do not report or submit any data to Spamhaus or any other third party.
  • We use WP Statistics, a self-hosted analytics plugin, to understand overall visitor traffic (e.g. page views, referrers). All data stays on our own server, uses anonymized/hashed IP addresses, does not use cookies, and is not shared with any third party.
  • Beyond the Developer Console described below, we do not use cookies.
We use one functional cookie (not for tracking, analytics, or advertising) on our Developer Console โ€” a separate, unlisted page where registered developers manage software they submitted. This cookie is only set if someone actually uses that page; it does not appear anywhere else on the site.
  • We do not use automated decision-making or profiling.
  • Sharing buttons for social media platforms are inactive unless explicitly clicked.
  • Embedded media will load data from external servers to enable playback. This applies to media linked to YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, etc. โ€” these only load once you click to play, not automatically when the page loads. API pre-loading is reduced to an absolute minimum.

YOUR RIGHTS

Under the GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, and to object to how we process it.

In practice: beyond the Developer Console described below, PDRoms has no public user accounts, no comment function open to visitors, and no other forms. The only personal data we process outside of that is the IP address logged automatically by our server for security purposes (see above), kept for two months. We have no way to search this data by name or e-mail โ€” if you want us to check whether your IP address is in our logs, or to have it removed early, contact the webmaster via e-mail and tell us the IP address and approximate date in question (we need it for verification and processing purposes โ€” otherwise there’s nothing for us to look up in the first place).

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. As PDRoms is operated from Austria, this is the ร–sterreichische Datenschutzbehรถrde (dsb.gv.at) โ€” but you may also complain to the supervisory authority in your own country of residence.

DEVELOPER ACCOUNTS

Developers who submit their own homebrew software through our Developer Console are issued a personal access token by us directly โ€” there is no public self-registration, and no e-mail address is collected for this purpose.

We store: the display name, and optionally a short bio and a homepage link, that a developer chooses to provide; a one-way cryptographic hash of their access token (we never store the token itself); and technical timestamps (when the account was created, when the token was last used, and when our Developer Terms of Service were accepted). A one-time functional cookie (see above) keeps a developer signed in to this console.

A developer’s chosen display name, bio, and homepage link (if provided) are shown publicly alongside the software they submitted.

Losing or cancelling access to the Developer Console does not remove software already submitted โ€” see our Developer Terms of Service for details. A developer may still ask us, at any time, to delete their personal profile information (display name, bio, homepage link) by contacting the webmaster via e-mail.

CONTENT

All downloads on PDRoms are free software or former commercial software legalised for free use by their authors, published under various licenses.

Our archive also includes fan games. Please note that these projects are usually developed without the explicit permission of the respective copyright holders. While they are created by enthusiasts for the community, we understand that the existence of these games may cause concern for some copyright owners or individuals.

We try our absolute best to keep this website as clean and legally compliant as possible; however, given the nature of community submissions, sometimes these measures might not be enough. To the best knowledge of our staff, PDRoms does not intentionally contain any commercially copyrighted material that does not meet โ€˜fair useโ€™ legal terms, including, but not limited to, commercial ROMs. It is not our intention to promote piracy or to reduce revenue for companies that produce games.

Should there be an oversight and unauthorized or contested material is identified on our server, please contact the webmaster via e-mail immediately. Any such material will be removed as soon as possible. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.

This site may contain adult-content homebrew software, but such items are not publicly visible or illustrated, and cannot be downloaded. They remain locally stored exclusively to keep the archive complete. This site is intended for mature audiences who are not offended by casual, opinionated remarks by the staff in news postings.

REFERRALS AND LINKS

Please exercise caution when following older external links on this website. As this project is decades old, some linked content is no longer valid. Over the years, external pages or domains may have been expired, sold, or restructured by third parties for entirely different, or potentially questionable, purposes.

While our team carefully checked each external page to avoid illegal or inappropriate content at the time of the original posting, we cannot control subsequent changes to external domains. Please let us know via e-mail if you spot any broken or compromised links so that we can remove them immediately.

COPYRIGHT

Our authors intend not to use any copyrighted material for publication or, where this is not possible, to indicate the copyright of the respective object. The copyright for such material remains with its original author.

Material created by our authors is copyrighted by PDRoms โ€“ please give credit where due! Automated parsing and publishing of our news or RSS content is not permitted without prior written consent.

We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any content on this website.

This disclaimer and the use of this website are governed by Austrian law.

We may update this privacy policy and disclaimer from time to time. Please check back periodically for changes.

LEGAL VALIDITY

If sections or individual terms of this statement are not legal or correct, the content and validity of the remaining parts remain unaffected by this fact.
