Symbian OS is a mobile operating system released in 1998 by Symbian Ltd., descending from Psion’s EPOC32. Built on an ARM-focused microkernel architecture, it delivered robust preemptive multitasking and low power consumption for early smartphones. Dominating the 2000s mobile market—most notably on Nokia devices using the S60 interface—it supported applications written in C++, Java ME, and Python.
