Super Nintendo Entertainment System News

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), released as the Super Famicom in Japan in 1990, is a 16-bit home video game console created by Nintendo. Powered by a Ricoh 5A22 CPU (based on a 65C816 core) running at up to 3.58 MHz with 128 KB of main RAM and 64 KB of VRAM, it outputs a baseline 256 x 224 resolution with a 32,768-color palette. It introduced hardware-level Mode 7 rotation and scaling alongside an 8-channel Sony SPC700 audio DSP. Operating on ROM cartridges, it supported custom coprocessor chips embedded directly into game boards, such as the Super FX for 3D polygon rendering.
