The arcade standard isn’t a single home machine, but custom coin-operated system boards built by manufacturers like Sega, Namco, and Capcom starting in the 1970s. Hardware evolved from single 8-bit CPUs (like the Zilog Z80) and discrete logic chips to powerful multi-processor boards with custom 2D sprite/tile generators, and later, advanced 3D GPUs. Standardized connection systems like JAMMA allowed operators to swap game PCBs into universal cabinets with arcade monitors running at low 15 kHz resolutions.

Spectar, released by Exidy in 1980, is the follow-up of Targ. Gameplay is apparently unchanged, you control a vehicle called Whummel into a 9x9 grid maze, chasing down, and being chased by, the alien invaders. Targ is a one or two player shooter game released by Exidy in 1980. Your town is invaded by Targ riders, you must manouvre the heroic vehicle Whummel to destroy them. From time to time, a Spectar comes into screen, and can be destroyed for extra bonus. Read more about Targ (Arcade Game)
