Video: NES Programming #32 – The colors! The colors! (NES misc)

Michael Chiaramonte shows us more NES Programming.

Quote:

In this episode I got palette data exporting more or less how I wanted and was able to load meta-tile palettes manually into the PPU to see what they looked like on the emulator. I found that we’ve run into a problem because the screen is only 30 tiles high as opposed to 32 so I need to figure out how I’m going to modify the palette attributes to accommodate. Next time, we’ll work on that and remove some of the fakery involved in getting the palettes loaded into the system. Thanks for watching and see you Thursday!

Video: NES Programming #31 – Properly loading metatiles from the map (NES misc)

Michael Chiaramonte shows us more NES Programming.

Quote:

In this stream, I worked on getting the map scrolling in the asset tool and then loading the metatiles from the map JSON metadata, instead of hard-coding the loading of PNGs at the start of the asset tool. This has put us in a good spot for Tuesday of next week when we work on loading the palettes for these metatiles so that they look right on the NES. Thanks for watching!

Gish v1.2 (Android Game Port)

Russian developer EXL ported Gish to Android using SDL2, OpenAL, Ogg Vorbis and GL4ES libraries. The original game is made by Cryptic Sea and can be bought from Steam. You will need the games data files to get the Android version run, which would cost your 9.99 EUR right now.

Gish isn’t your average hero. In fact, he’s not your average anything…you see, Gish is a ball of tar. A Sunday stroll with his lady friend, Brea, goes awry when a shadowy figure emerges from an open manhole and pulls Brea below ground. Following Brea’s calls for help, Gish suddenly finds himself in the subterranean sewers of Dross, a long forgotten city filled with twisting corridors, evil traps, and some of the most demented creatures imaginable.

With his gelatinous structure as his only means of defense, Gish must follow the echoing cries of his damsel in distress deep within the earth below. What freakish creatures dwell in this subterranean land? Who is Brea’s captor? And just how far down does the rabbit hole go?
