The Retro League Podcast features discussion about the latest retro gaming news, re-releases, community developments and reviews of our favorite games.
This week:
This week we are joined by a couple of special guests from Mega Visions magazine. They’re working to create a Sega-focused magazine that’s worth keeping, and they had some hands-on experience with some upcoming retro game consoles. There might be a toaster that will burn the image of a famous console mascot into your bread and our listeners left their consoles on for a long time in this episode of the Retro League.
Here are the last few days to support Mikael Tillander and his Genesis / Mega Drive game Tänzer! It’s a new hack and slash platformer game with surreal feeling.
Upward is a minimalism PICO-8 puzzle platformer by Matthias Falk, made in only 5 days. The only thing you can do is jump – is that enough to climb a mountain?
Changes:
* Save game: Game will now autosave each level and you can quit/resume the game any time now at the point you left off.
* Mouse/touch controls: Game can now be fully controlled via mouse/touch (also added small clickable reset button, in case player gets stuck). Since the game has always been a one-tap game, we now have a mobile-ready PICO platformer!
* Difficulty curve: made some adjustments in the first few screens to make difficulty curve a bit less steep.
* More changes: Made bullet hitboxes more accurate and thus a little bit more foregiving.
The Mojon Twins‘s game Cheril Perils will hit the Game Boy in the hopefulyl not too distant future! The game is being rewritten for Nintendo’s Game Boy by budgames. There can never be enough Jump’n’Run games 🙂
Maxim Zhao shows us an example of music being played on a Sega Master System using advanced pre-analysis to produce much higher quality than usual. See https://github.com/maxim-zhao/pcmenc for more details.
