iStudy v0.91 (iPhone misc)

iFlashCards looks for folders in the /var/root/Library/iFlashCards directory on your iPhone. Create a folder with a questions.txt and answers.txt file with the question and answers listed one-per-line and place that folder in the /var/root/Library/iFlashCards directory. When you launch iFlashCards select the desired folder and start learning!

A sample flash card directory is in the downloads page (GRE-Vocab.zip). Simply extract and copy the folder as explained above to learn your vocab!

VNsea v0.6 (iPhone Application)

VNsea is a graphical VNC client for both the iPhone and the iPod touch based on Chicken of the VNC for Mac OS X. Version 0.6 is on the site now. This release should be quite a bit more stable than the last couple. Plus, it has some nice new features, including the long-awaited ctrl-alt-del command!

Changes:

A new helper functions window that is shown with the “More” button. The fit to screen controls have been moved here.
A new preference to keep open connections alive when the home button is pressed has been added. A check mark is visible on the VNsea icon in SpringBoard when there is an active connection.
Reorganised the main server list screen a little.
A workaround has been added for very large displays or multiple monitor systems. It is imperfect, in that it cuts the display off, but the underlying problem is with the OS so not a whole lot can be done.
Issue 6 Status display would be very handy
Issue 7 Garbled screen with multiple monitors or large display
Issue 8 Unable to send ctrl +alt +delete command
Issue 69 Connection to host computer should stay open if you press the home button
Issue 80 “New” button on Nav bar does not conform..
Issue 83 Occassional crash when connected for a while
Issue 86 Crashing using EDGE
Issue 100 Please add Tab key
Issue 101 No esc

iDemocracy v2.0.1 (iPhone misc)

iDemocracy is the very first iPhone 1.1.1 jailbreak and third-party app installation solution for the Windows platform, written by Drakenza which is (at least partially) automated, and has a GUI interface. It is currently supported on Windows XP/Vista and requires only iTunes, an iPhone, and the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0.

iDemocracy 2 brings all kinds of new features like free ringtones on firmwares 1.1.1 and 1.1.2, as well as File Browsing (using Manzana) and all kinds of other wonderful things.

iDemocracy NOW SUPPORTS FW 1.1.2. However, it cannot unlock OTB 1.1.2 iPhones running bootloader 4.06 (yet). There will be a release 2.1 shortly after the release on the 16th which will add this functionality as soon as possible.

ScummVM for iPhone (iPhone misc)

ScummVM is now available for your iPhone, using installer.app. Note that this port is currently under development, and may not work correctly. Or at all.

ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!

Some of the adventures ScummVM supports include Adventure Soft’s Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2; Revolution’s Beneath A Steel Sky, Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2; Flight of the Amazon Queen; Wyrmkeep’s Inherit the Earth; Coktel Vision’s Gobliiins; Westwood Studios’ The Legend of Kyrandia and games based on LucasArts’ SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) system such as Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and more. You can find a thorough list with details on which games are supported and how well on the compatibility page. ScummVM is continually improving, so check back often.

Thanks to my old mate clem from lower austria for the news 😉

BBC Micro, Coleco Vision and more on iPhone (iPhone misc)

Everyone of us knows, there are currently two emulators for the iPhone: NES.app for NES emulation and gpSPhone for Gameboy Advance emulation.

With the help of gpSPhone we can actually emulate more Systems and make the iPhone even more useful! The solution: Play an emulator in an emulator!

As homebrew development for Gameboy Advance started back in late 2001, there are plenty of programs out. So what about using gpSPhone to play … on your iPhone?

Coleco Vision -> Use Cologne v0.7 by FluBBa
Master System -> Use SMSAdvance v2.1 by FluBBa
MSX -> Use MSX Advance v0.2 by FluBBa
Gameboy Classic -> Use Goomba v2.3 by FluBBa
PC Engine – Use PCEAdvance v7.5 by FluBBa
NES – Use PocketNES v9.98 by FluBBa and Loopy
Supervision – Use Wasabi v1.0 by FluBba
Wonderswan Color – Use SwanAdvance v0.1 by FluBBa
SNES – Use SNESAdvance v0.1f by FluBBa

Homepage for those: http://www.ndsretro.com/

BBC Micro – Use Pocket Beeb v1.01 by Quirky

Homepage: http://www.geocities.com/quirky_2k1/emulation/index.html

Spectrum 48k – Use FooN

http://foon.pocketheaven.com/

Of course there would be a few more examples, which won’t be listed here – but, dear reader, you should have already got the impression you need! Most low level systems (8-Bit) are emulated very well, while the better ones are just sort of technical demos – games will run slow.

Good luck with “enhancing” your iPhone with gpSPhone! Some emulators for GBA can also be downloaded from //files/gameboyadvance/Emulators/?page=1

Please keep in mind most emulators for Gameboy Advance have an windows injector, which fill up a provided .GBA file. Mostly you will require Windows too.
