devkitARM r21 (GBA misc)

The coding toolchain devkitARM has seen a new update!

Changes:

Upgraded to gcc 4.1.2
Added gdb by popular request
Now including libraries for ARM big-endian devices – this relates to a request from the winARM maintainers, not DS related.
Newlib patches extended to allow time() to work on the DS
argv has been added – this will require support from the homebrew launcher menu on various cards
ndstool now uses the default arm7 core distributed with libnds in preference to an embedded one
Now working on Vista/Vista64 – users who were impatient and modified paths should now remove those changes

For DS, GBA and GP32 you require devkitARM. There is a mailing list for support issues and general development discussion at http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/devkitpro-arm-users

Gianas Return News (24-10-2007) (GP2x misc)

Here are a few news from the Giana’s Return team:

after a heavy motivation lack of the organizer (the coder and beta tester were still pretty active) here comes a larger update…

* we have a new graphic artist, who was and is involved in commercial gba and nds games. he will take care of the tilesets and will adjust them to the backgrounds of each world. we can assure you, the first drafts look excellent and the game will rock even more. if the first tileset has been retouched, you’ll find a screenshot or more here.
* our main musician operator is currently not reachable, or not answering our mails, for whatever reason. this ain’t too bad, because there are two other people who are willing to help out. music isn’t really an issuse and quality chipmusic is granted as well. the two guys i am talking about made a soundtrack for “poussin”, the successor of “xump” (gp32, dreamcast, win32) but as the second part of xump will take some time, we will just misuse the unreleased tracks for giana.
* parts of the storyline are drawn, just minor work is left.
* when time comes, we need few translators, who will localize the game into their mother tongue. so far there is an english version and a pretty poor german translation. basically everything is possible if we have a translator: french, spanish, hungarian, finish, swedish, whatever… but for this we will need you! you can already start posting in the comments, we will get back to you. english, french and german are already covered.

if we keep the speed as it is, we hope to pull the game out by around new year, but this shouldn’t be a promise 😉

Labyrinth v0.4.0 (iPhone Game)

Labyrinth is the iPhone version of the classic game where you control a steel ball by tilting a wooden labyrinth. It is controlled by the iPhone accelerometer and is, as far as I know, the first iPhone game rendered using OpenGL ES.

Thanks to http://www.emuholic.com for the news.

Revitalize your “bricked” iPhone (iPhone misc)

This process is designed to rebuild your lock table in the seczone area and repair the damage done by the original anySIM unlock. In essence, it re-virginizes your phone.

Get the whole tutorial and a script at the linked page below.

Jack Turtle v0.15a (NDS Game)

kiswa has updated his game “Jack Turtle”.

Release notes:

Okay, I have uploaded a new Alpha demo of the game. You will want to DLDI patch it for your homebrew device as it uses FAT to auto-create a game save. Also, if you downloaded the previous alpha, you will need to delete the old .sav file as they are not likely to work right.

What it has:
* Splash Screen
* Main Menu (Only Options does nothing)
* Level Selection (See below)
* One Test Level – (This is NOT how they will look when released, just for testing!)
* Shooting
* Scoring
* Damage animations
* Enemies that shoot back
* Hit-point tracking (player and enemies)
* Two Enemies with AI (Sea Urchins and SCOOWBA Fish)
* One enemy that should have better AI (the stingray)
* In-Game Pause Menu (again, only Options does nothing)
* Lid checking (pause menu if in-game lid close)
* Some bugs (e.g. urchins flicker into screen just before appearing)

What it does NOT have:
* Any storytelling at all
* Good death animations (only urchins do anything now)
* More than one level
* More than three enemies
* Completely functional menus – still working on the Options!
* A bunch of other stuff a platform game should have

Anyway, let me know what you think of the new demo! It’s available on the main post of this thread.

Bianax v1.2 (GP2x Game Port)

Biniax is an original and unique arcade logic game. It requires just a minute to learn the rules and you will get hours of gameplay. The gaming field is a 5×7 grid filled partially with pairs of elements. Every pair consists of two different elements combined of four possible.

You control the box with an element inside. You can move around the field on empty spaces. You can also remove pairs of elements, if you have the same element as the one of the pair. When you remove the pair your element becomes the other one element of the pair and the score is increased;
The gaming field scrolls down slowly (increasing the speed with your progress) and your goal is to stay as long as possible on the field. Remember, that if you can not take the pair in front of you, the scrolling will move your block down!

Bianax (Classic) v1.2 has been ported to the GP2x by Running Free.
