Dawn Will Come by eishiya is a survival horror game. It can be played on any emulator or a flashcart to play on a real Game Boy.
The game is all about having survival instincts to survive the dark night, full of crawling monsters. You assign a task to each person, each day (Rest, Guard, or Search). Once you’ve decided what everyone will do, select “do tasks” by the campfire to carry them out. As the developer says:
- Resting will recover some health, but unguarded sleepers may be attacked in the night.
- Guarding will protect your sleepers and supplies, but your guards may have to fight.
- Searching will potentially get you useful supplies and new friends, but searchers may take damage from prowling monsters.
Search and explore different locations, find more people to enlarge your group. The game is built with an auto-save function.
Paint-It by Crunchworks is a MSX game which has been released back in 2020. Never the less it’s a nice little game, which gives a couple of minutes of entertainment. The task is, as usual at least simple sounding, to “paint” a 16×16 blocks wall in one color. Are you up for some late night action?
Fix My Heart by Filipe Bianchin is a neat homebrew Nintendo Game Boy (Color) game. As the author mentions on his own: “Explore this cave to find either life or death – and nothing else”. Sounds promising?
Shock Lobster by tbsp is an entry for the Game Boy Competition 2021. It’s designed to run on the original Game Boy handheld video game system using a flash cartridge.
You play as a lowly lobster imbued with magical powers. Use the pearls you collect on your way to unlock more skills, upgrades, and items to push your high score higher and higher. Several of the skills apply damage-over-time effects to the enemy, which are represented by bars on the bottom-left of the game screen. The speed of the game and loadout/items used are summarized in the game over panel.
Interblocked by Maithonis is the recreation of the original “Tokyo Parking” board game for Nintendo’s Game Boy.
The game is built on 10,000 levels to beat with 5 different tiers of difficulty. Each time you beat a level, you can save your progress and continue anytime where you left off. Because there are so many levels, you might find the earlier ones too easy. So, if you want to challenge yourself, you can browse through, ‘Intermediate’, ‘Advanced’ and ‘Expert’ levels. Each level is beatable and there are no duplications. So, do you have what it takes to finish the game?
StarPiece by BuddyBoyBueno is a short action platformer made for the GB Compo 2021.
The game is built on incredible graphics with smooth transitions. You can play the game in 2 modes. Choose the normal mode if it’s your first play but of course, you can choose the hard mode if you are looking for a challenge. You can try another mode, i.e BossRush mode. You will fight 5 bosses in the game, back to back. Be careful though, BossRush is set to extremely hard mode.

The goal of the game is quite simple, you need to to collect the star to end each level. Meanwhile, you can collect apples to gain points but watch out for the enemies, if your body segments collide with them, it’s game over. You can restart the game by pressing CTRL-R.
Froggo by Liam is a 1k sized Frogger game for PICO-8.
Move the frog with arrow keys. Watch out of the incoming, speedy cars. Once a car hits you, you lose your score and start again. Everytime you pass a level, the difficulty of level increases which makes it harder to play.
