Before having our asset tool generate maps, I had learn how to manipulate the nametable properly on the NES. So, that’s what we did. I figured out how to get it to load two screens worth of 32×32 metatiles. The next step is to start making maps that we can load. As I mentioned on stream and in the recording, there will be no episodes next week but I’ll be back on 4/16 with our regularly scheduled streams. Thanks for watching!
working on clouds for some of the land stages this weekend. Land stages only appear in Hard and Normal difficulty settings. game is basically done just need to finish these details and cleaning up bugs. #wii
Puff and Blow must suck the floating gas clouds into their guns and blast them out against a vertical surface. Bad guys then turn into bonuses which can be collected. Be warned! – the gas cloud dissolves with time after which baddies become active again and extremely annoyed.
Puff and Blow each have a Methane Gas Gun which fires a cloud of immobilizing gas. If this comes into contact with a bad guy he will be absorbed into the gas and then float around the screen for a limited time. Bad guys are harmless in this state.
Audio in French, Subtitles in English. Third video of my next software, Retro Game Designer, a game creation tool that will export to retro console such as the Megadrive / Genesis, Dreamcast, PS1, etc… Here I cover the new features since the last video, in the Image & Map designer, also added the Sprite Manager, and an Export to a Megadrive / Genesis ROM!
MazeShooter is an Android game by RaindropsArtStudio. It’s ad-supported. MazeShooter… the name tells it pretty much already. Get ready for some puzzle action!
Pixel Javelin is an Android game by TheByteKingdom. Welcome to the arena! Throw some Javelins and hit the Target to get some points. Avoid the boars at all costs. Can you open all doors and have a Boarsome Party going on? Give it a try and see if you can top the Leaderboards! This game is ad-supported!
SlipWays is a PICO-8 game by krajzeg. Drag the map around using the right mouse button or the SDFE keys. Click to drop a wormhole that will become your starting point. Then click and drag to find some planets, which you can colonize with your chosen industry type. Drag from planet to planet to connect them with a slipway. Try to connect planets that make stuff with planets that need it. Buy structures by dragging them from the bottom-right corner. Research technologies from the top-left corner. Click the heart symbol to check your score.
Changes:
* After you supply their basic needs, farms now develop an additional need for organics to fertilize them
* “Geneseeds” and “Xenofoods” technologies were overhauled to make them more focused and useful
* “Drillbots” were made slightly weaker – less productive on gas giants and iceballs
* Organics production on xeno planets is slightly lower now (but they’re more useful!)
* Several techs had their costs tweaked to better match their strength
* Slipgates (only the base ones, not infragates) are now much cheaper to build at 10$
* When colonizing a planet, tooltips now show the names of the resources, so that you know that organics is the green one 😉
In this stream, I added the ability to create and export metatiles from 32×32 PNG files. This isn’t all that different than how we did it with sprites, but it started me thinking about how we want to handle backgrounds and mappers. This is the starting point for creating backgrounds in the NES and next time we’ll start actually coding the tool to support building our backgrounds. I have some work to do on the asset tool to support some of the functionality needed in the GUI (text boxes and a popup window being the key missing elements). Join me next time on Thursday at 9PM eastern to see how that goes. Also, I’ve been streaming some music I’ve been working on and showing some other things before the recording gets started so be sure to join a few minutes early to catch that stuff 🙂
