The Unmapped Forest v0.2 (PS3 Game)

ThatOtherDev updated his homebrew PS3 game “The Unmapped Forest”. It is an action RPG game but in early development stages.

The Unmapped Forest v0.2 by ThatOtherDev - PS3 Homebrew

Changes:

I’ve fixed the problem that caused it to freeze at a black screen when running at certain resolutions.
You have health and can be hurt.
You can now kill monsters.
You gain experience for killing monsters and you can level up infinitely (there is no level cap).
When you level up your maximum health is increased and you are fully healed.
When a monster (or its corpse) and its spawn point are both out of view then the monster is given full health and returned to its spawn point to wait for you to approach.
There are now five types of monsters.
The world has been expanded upon. For anybody that wants to further edit the game world you can easily do so by modifying the file “/dev_hdd0/game/UNMAPPEDF/USRDIR/world.dat” with any text editor.
The camera is zoomed out further.
You can now use the right analog stick to move the camera around.
Movement speed has been slightly increased.
I have improved the way that sprites are layered (there is still a problem with things occasionally being incorrectly drawn in front of trees that they are standing behind but this will be fixed soon).
Improved collisions.

They Do Not Die 2 v0.1 (PS3 Game)

They Do Not Die 2 is a successor of “They Do Not Die”. A top-down Zombie shooter with rather simple graphics by ThatOtherDev.

Release notes:

So I’m making a sequel to my top down zombie shooter They Do Not Die. it is being made primarily for PS3 but there will also be a PC version and there may potentially be a Wii port of it later.

This is just a very early build of it but so far the game already features a truly massive procedurally generated city that is populated by human survivors and zombies that you can shoot.

One thing that I have working already that I’m really happy with is the fact that you (the player) are not treated special by the zombie AI. They will gladly ignore you if there is another human that is closer to them. There is something really cool about walking down a street and seeing people being herded by zombies.

There is collision detection that makes you bump into other people and prevents you from walking on water but there isn’t any yet for the building walls.

You are the orange circle, human survivors are pink and zombies are green. I know that not everybody likes them but the arrow circles will always be the default appearance for people in the game. But I will quickly put together some kind of a re skinned version if there are any color blind or partially color blind players that are finding it difficult to differentiate between them and there might eventually be built in support for alternate skins.

I’ll be alternating between working on this and The Unmapped Forest.

PS3 controls:
* Left analog stick = Move
* Right analog stick = Aim
* R1 = Shoot

Avoidance v0.1 (PS3 Game)

ThatOtherDev comes up with a port of his PC/Wii game “Avoidance”. (Hi)Scores are NOT displayed and also not saved (the screenshot is from the Wii version). The author is aware of the port being far from perfect, but he does not want to spend more time with it.

The Unmapped Forest v0.1 (PS3 Game)

ThatOtherDev started making a new homebrew PS3 game, currently named “The Unmapped Forest”. It will be an action RPG game but it is in very early development stages. It currently consists of a forest that you can wander around in and some slime monsters that will follow you. You can attack but you can not actually hurt the monsters and they can not hurt you.

There will be PC and Wii versions later.

Cubicle Shooter v0.7 (PS3 Game)

ThatOtherPerson has updated Cubicle Shooter for the PS3!

Quote:

Here is an updated version of Cubicle Shooter!

Notable changes:
You can now shoot other players in split screen multiplayer (still no player death but you get pushed back when shot).
You are taller now. You can crouch back to your previous shortness by holding down the right analog stick. You automatically crouch when there isn’t enough room to stand.
Enemies in multiplayer will approach the nearest player (they would previously only follow player one).
Enemies no longer spawn inside the cube at the start of the game so you wont encounter them until you blast through the wall (It was beginning to feel a little bit too crowded).
The kill counter has been replaced with a score system. You get 10 points each time you shoot a cubicle dweller. The scores are tracked separately for each player.
textured stars onto the sky.
Set a limit to how deep you can dig into the ground (the limit is fairly deep and I don’t expect it will be a problem for anyone).
Fixed the scope in multiplayer.
Some improvements to performance.

Controls:
Move – Left analog stick
Run – L3
Aim – Right analog stick
Crouch – R3
Shoot – R1
Zoom – L1
Jump – X

Cubicle Shooter v0.6 (PS3 Game)

ThatOtherPerson has updated Cubicle Shooter for the PS3!

Quote:

Yet another updated version of Cubicle Shooter.

Notable changes:
I believe I’ve corrected what was causing the previous version to crash for a lot of people.
Added two player split screen multiplayer
Added a menu system
Added the ability to record a screenshot (its saved to any USB storage device that is connected)
Chairs can be shot now (they don’t break but they get pushed back)
Added computers (they are treated similarly to how chairs are treated)
Now you shoot when you first press R1 regardless of how much or little time has gone since you last shot (so you can shoot faster by quickly tapping R1 then you do from just holding it down)
Jumping now only happens when you first press X (holding it down wont make you repeatedly jump every time you hit the ground)
I removed the triangle for reverse view thing

Controls:
Move – Left analog stick
Run – L3
Aim – Right analog stick
Shoot – R1
Zoom – L1
Jump – X

Dont Get Crushed v1.0 (PS3 Game)

Don’t Get Crushed is a PS3 port/remake of ThatOtherDev’s previously released Wii game of the same name.

Use the left analog stick to move the grey ball left or right and avoid the other balls as they bounce across the screen. If you get crushed under one of the bouncing balls then its game over and your score is reset to zero. Your high score is automatically saved to your hard drive.

Release notes:

Analog stick controls have been replaced with sixaxis motion controls
Corrected the problem with the on screen text
The graphics shouldn’t look stretched anymore (now the circles are circles)

Controls:

Just tilt your controller left or right to move left or right

Neo Race v0.1 (PS3 Game)

This is an early build of a racing game with sixaxis controls. Just tilt your PS3 controller left and right to turn and hold X to accelerate.

At the moment all you can do is go around the track and possibly drive off it and onto the buildings bellow.

Cubicle Shooter v0.5 (PS3 Game)

ThatOtherPerson has updated Cubicle Shooter for the PS3!

Quote:

Another update for Cubicle Shooter.

Notable changes:
Improved frame rate.
The enemy count has been raised from 25 to 100.
Added movable chairs.
Added a loading screen.
Added running. Just hold down the left analog stick well moving forward to enable it. The camera does a nice wobble from side to side when your running.
Added camera zoom. Hold down L1 to enable the scope. Turning speed is a bit slower when zoomed in which makes it easier to aim at things in the distance.
Added a little bit of momentum / smoothing on the camera rotation. Its faster and more responsive then it is in Killzone 2 but it enough to make it feel smoother and it makes it a bit easier to make slight aiming adjustments.
Increased rate of fire again.
Corrected the width of the 2D elements (the on screen text and the reticule) to take into account the screens aspect ratio. The scope for the newly added camera zoom disregards this and stretches to fit the screen.
Once again game saving/loading has been updated to work with the new additions so your old game save wont work correctly.
By holding down triangle you can split the screen in two with the bottom half displaying whats behind you. Its a feature that I don’t really intend to leave it but its a test and a small first step towards split screen multiplayer.

Controls:
Move – Left analog stick
Run – L3
Aim – Right analog stick
Shoot – R1
Zoom – L1
Jump – X
Save – Select
Load – Start
split screen backwards view – Triangle

Cascade Beneath v0.1 (PS3 Game)

Cascade Beneath is a simple clone of the equally simple game Fall Down. Use the left analog stick to move left and right and try to keep from getting pushed off the top of the screen for as long as possible.
