The fourth installment of Sqrxz has been released. Sqrxz 4 – Cold Cash has been released to the public on 20th April for plenty of systems, such as Windows (32-Bit), Linux (32-Bit, 64-Bit), Wiz, PSP, MotoMagx, Dreamcast, GCW Zero, MacOS X (32-Bit, 64-Bit) / Intel, Amiga OS4, MorphOS, Symbian OS Series 60, Symbian OS UIQ3, Raspberry Pi, Caanoo, GP2x and OpenPandora.
ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!
Some of the adventures ScummVM supports include Adventure Soft’s Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2; Revolution’s Beneath A Steel Sky, Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2; Flight of the Amazon Queen; Wyrmkeep’s Inherit the Earth; Coktel Vision’s Gobliiins; Westwood Studios’ The Legend of Kyrandia and games based on LucasArts’ SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) system such as Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and more. – Using the mouse wheel on a slider widget now changes the value by the smallest possible amount. This is more predictable than the old behaviour, which was to change the value by “one pixel” which would sometimes not change it at all.

– Added FluidSynth settings dialog, mainly for reverb and chorus settings.
– Fixed crash on certain Smacker movies.
– Improved audio support for Amiga and AtariST versions of Future Wars. Now music fades out slowly instead of stopping immediately. Sound effects are now properly panned, when requested by the game.
– Soltys contains a puzzle requiring the ALT key to be pressed while clicking on an object. This puzzle has been disabled on devices not using this key.
– Resolved multiple UI issues with the original save/load screen.
– Added advanced savegame functionality, including savegame timestamps and thumbnails and the ability to load and delete savegames from the launcher. It’s now possible to use the ScummvM save/load dialogs.
– The F7 key (previously unmapped) now always shows the ScummVM load screen. The F10 key displays either the original save/load screen, or the ScummVM save screen, if the user has selected to use the ScummVM save/load dialogs.
– Now that the game is freeware, there is a small extra help text showing the available commands in the in-game terminals when the player uses the ‘help’ command. Previously, players needed to consult the manual for the available commands. Since this reference to the manual is a form of copy protection, this extra line can be toggled by the ScummVM copy protection command line option.
– Simplified the movie speed options, and added a custom option for The 7th Guest. Movie options are now “normal” and “fast”, with the latter changing the movie speed in T7G to match the faster movie speed of the iOS version. The game entry might need to be readded in the launcher for the new setting to appear.
– Added music support for the Macintosh version of I Have No Mouth and, I Must Scream.
– Implemented Monkey Island 2 Macintosh’s audio driver. Now we properly support its sample based audio output. The same output is also used for the m68k Macintosh version of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.
– Improved music support for the Macintosh version of Monkey Island 1. It now uses the original instruments, rather than approximating them with General MIDI instruments, and should sound a lot closer to the original.

Unsung, a World War I adventure in Wolfenstein 3D, lets you slog through the trenches in true pixelated FPS fashion.

Dead. That one word perfectly describes the current status of the Dreamcast port of Unsung. Now that the bad news has been dealt with, here is some good news. The incomplete and probably never to be completed port is now released and up for download. I had wanted to finish this awhile back but little work has been put into it the last eight months, and I don’t foresee that changing anytime soon. As it currently stands the cutscenes still don’t function and the frame rate is rather low. This port really can’t be recommended but here it is.
SpaceAryarya by Katsuyoshi Sato is a game similar to the well known classic Space Harrier. Instead of the funky hoverboard you stay and navigate in the air using a jetpack. The mission still remains same, shoot everything that moves.
Rectangle Battle by 2D-Retroperspectives is an oldschool space-shooter with a 2 player vs. mode. You can have fun by aiming at high scores in 1 player survival mode or enjoy a quick
match with a friend. Beware the evil triangles ;)
Sqrzx 3 by Retroguru is a pretty insane Jump’n Run Game with Puzzle elements, available for Amiga OS4, AROS, Caanoo, Dingoo A320 (OpenDingux), Dreamcast, GP2x, Mac OS X, Motomagx, MorphOS, NetBSD (Intel), Pandora, Playstation Portable (unsigned), Symbian OS Series 60, Symbian OS UIQ3, Ubuntu, Windows and Wiz.
Make sure your mind works faster than a thunder and your fingers should be even faster than that.
The Dreamcast version has been updated, while all other 16 platforms are an initial release to it’s respective platforms.
