XPMCK (17-04-2009) (Coleco Vision misc)

XPMCK is a music (expressed in MML) compiler kit targeted towards various video game systems. It currently supports the following systems:

* Coleco Vision
* Capcom Play System (VGM output)
* Commodore 64
* Nintendo Gameboy / Gameboy Color
* SEGA Master System
* SEGA Game Gear
* SEGA Genesis

Besides the compiler and its source code, the kit includes playback libraries for all supported systems, as well as examples and brief documentation.

Release notes:

Added the ColecoVision as a supported target (I get really strange sound output from ColEm. But it works in blueMSX).

Thanks to the author, mic, himself for the news via ICQ.

PDRoms Coding Competition v4.01 (Coleco Vision misc)

It’s reality again, here comes PDROMS CODING COMPETITION v4.01 – Retro Coding Fun for Console and Handhelds!

Coding on “closed” handhelds or consoles must not be a privilege; dozens of free development kits proof the opposite. The steadily growing “homebrew scene” produces unlicensed software for devices not meant to be open for everyone.

Here is the brief data:

MazezaM v1.1 (ColecoVision Game)

Dr. Hirudo has let us know ( http://www.pdroms.de/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2706 ) that he released an updated version of MazezaM (feel free to leave feedback in the PDRoms webboard).

The goal of the game looks simple – to pass from the left part of the level to the right, by sliding the walls and making corridors between them, which you can pass through. Once you get to the right part of the level, the character goes through straight corridor to the next level. The game gets harder with every level passed. But the motivation of the player to go to the next level raises as well. MazezaM is also available for other various platforms with wide range of features on every different hardware.

Release notes:

I have made the new release of MazezaM for Colecovision, compiled with the newer SDCC compiler. It is now faster and with two more levels. But the Gameboy version is still better, with smoother animation of the character.

Kobashi (Coleco Visoin Game)

Kobashi is a small game where you have to survive as a fish by eating the food dropped from the surface.

The original was ranked 2nd at the MRC Underwater Challenge and was released as a 8k rom, this version became 16k mostly due to removing the compression of data.

Colored Gravity (20-08-2008) (Coleco Vision Game)

PkK updated his game Colored Gravity.

There are two spaceships, each steered by a ColecoVision controller. At the top of the screen there are two numbers. The upper one is energy left. Energy is lost when firing, changing color or being hit by a missile. Energy recharges while the spaceship isn’t accelerating or decelerating. The other number is the reload. You can’t fire or change color while it’s nonzero. There are three colors. Objects of different color attract each other.

Left fire button: Fire missile of your current color.
Right fire button: Try to change color.
Joystick: Accelerate / Decelerate, turn spaceship.

Spaceships and missiles bounce when hitting the border of the playing area.

Release notes:

I hope I’ll be able to make a cart-releasable game out of this. However I don’t know when that will happen. Since I probably won’t work on it in the next few weeks I’ve attached the current version.
