Wii GeckoOS v2.0 WIP (Wii Application)

Wii GeckoOS can act alone or take advantage of his USB Gecko Nintendo Wii development adapter. One cool feature of the OS is the fact you can boot it with the homebrew channel and use it’s Region Free feature to boot other region games on your Wii.

Here are a few news for the upcomming unreleased v2:

Sorry for the delay in Gecko 2.0 software, i know was supposed to be released on the 1st but i decided not to rush it, fix all the bugs and figure out the best way to complete the cheat options so users no longer have to use single text files.

anyway here a screen grab i took, so you can see whats coming, some new features and tools, and big improvements on old ones.

File menu is still not finished, which is basically, DOL, ELF, MP3 loader, which is alot like SD load but supports more file types.

Thanks again for the support!

CFW Folder Blocker v1.0 (PSP Application)

Some new UMDs are detecting files in the ms0:/seplugins and ms0:/iso folders and causing problems, even deleting files from these folders. This plugin will hide these folders in GAME mode so they can’t be accessed.

Spider Game v0.4c (A2600 Game)

Spider game (prototype name) is a platform game, you play as spider and must walk around and climb platforms to collect goodies, while dodge all cast of dangerous enemies such scoprions, bats and others.

You can climb on upper platform, fix on it and walk in upside-down view, this is the novelty.

Please keep in mind this game is a work in progress and will improve over time.

Release notes:

This new beta shows the gravity system, a very small update. The spider can’t be damaged if fall, I never liked this on the old games.
The cutscene is more interesting, I want to use “hiper sprite” (composition of sprites and playfield pixels to draw one image)
as cutscenes between the levels. I think is a good usage of the graphic vcs hardware and don’t waste much rom ( I can store 9 images like that in 1kb).

My next step is a bit hard, I need to add the playfield colision code, this must be done by software because both, platforms and columns, are playfield and the spider must be free to walk horizontally on the platform but not to cross one column, or fall even touching one column but stop hitting a platform.

SmallBall in Changeland (Test) (31-01-2009) (Wiz Fenix Game)

One day when Smallball woke up he discovered that Nasties had stolen all of his friends happyspirits! Without the HPs all of Smallballs friends was as braindead as zombies! Gather all of the HPs before the Nasties gets you too! But beware, you are in changeland where natural laws change constantly!

Release notes:

Thanks for all the good ideas! I know this game isn’t very optimized, but the reason for that is mostly because it was made just for fun in between some bigger projects. Thus I never tried to optimize the code much at all.

Ruckage, your first method shouldn’t be too hard to implement. I might try that, I think I know how to make it only draw tiles at the correct positions. As for the second idea, I was thinking about doing something like that once, but I decided it would be a bit too complicated for such a small game.

It’s true there are some really cool tricks to make it all run fast. I have learned a bit more of them since I made this game, but it certainly could run better. Btw, I’m really impressed with the games you have made, Ruckage. I hadn’t thought about that they were made in Fenix. It would be interesting to hear how you made that waving background. Is the game copying each line of pixels and then pasting it again a few pixels away and repeating that all over the screen? Because I did something like that once, to create a “melting” effect.

Peter R, you mean I should put the processes to sleep until they are activated? That might work. It would be less to draw, but still as much to check collision against. But as you say, in combination with the other ideas it might work.

As for now, I have made a version which uses pre-drawn tiles instead of alpha.

If it is not running fast enough now though, I might try some of the other methods.

I have another game almost done for the GP2X/Wiz which I’d rather release first and Ill also want to try porting Epic Rocks to the Wiz. It should run better, since I already did some optimization on it.
