Apollonia v0.04 (PSP Game)

Codetactics updated their multiplatform, 3D, top down, arcade style helicopter game Apollonia.

Changes:

Features
* Chase camera – The default camera view is from behind the helicopter, rather than from isometrically above. The original (retro) camera view can be selected from the controls screen.
* Player profiles – Player names and data can now be saved to a database.
* Enhanced particle effects -ÊThese are used for missile impacts and bullet to ground impacts.
* Airstrike! – An A-10 Thunderbolt II can be called using L+R trigger. Includes audio.
* New Apache model.
* Ingame messages can be printed to the HUD.
* Briefing screens – To add meaing to the madness, there are short mission descriptions for each mission (excludes Instant Action).
* Three new missions.
* Friendly tanks.
* Player Statistics – Mission data is saved to a player’s profile. This includes flight time, accuracy, deaths etc.
* Post mission score board -ÊThe score board summarises statistical data of a just completed/failed mission.
* New Ammo and Health display on the HUD.
* The player helicopter can start some missions airborne.
* New factory building.
* Existing buildings have been scaled more accurately.
* Tweaked existing missions so that the player is less likely to be overwhelmed.

Under the Hood (for your interest)
* Particle Engine, Terrain and rendering optimisations.
* Splash Screen fixes.
* You can now shoot through destroyed buildings so that units inside them can be hit.
* Using the sqlite database for player data.

Known Issues
* Sometimes there is incorrect textures loaded (very elusive).
* Three Player Profile limit.
* High memory usage. Beware of too many PSP background processes.
* Suspend mode not supported.
* There is a delay between the mission being won/lost and the scoreboard being visible. This is because of the time taken to write data to the database.
* Slow load times; about 8 seconds (minus Sony logo).
* Some instances of near plane clipping of the terrain resulting in small amounts of unrenedered terrain.

REminiscence (07-06-2009) (Wiz Game Port)

smyp ported REminiscence to the Wiz, it’s a re-implementation of the engine used in the game “Flashback: The Quest for Identity” made by Delphine Software and released in 1992.

Quote:

I tried to port one of my favourite games: Flashback using the REminiscence engine (http://cyxdown.free.fr/reminiscence/).

This is my first compilation of anything for the Wiz, so don’t expect a perfect port and correct me if I did something wrong. I saw that there was already a port for the older gp2x. As the Wiz is my first gp2x device, I know nothing about that port. Maybe the person who did it will also do a Wiz port, but as there was no source code I tried to do it myself.

I still have some issues with sound. Also I did only very little testing. Maybe the game crashes in the third level or other issues will show up.

NDS Poker (07-06-2009) (NDS Game)

Pete Lockwood released a poker game for Nintendo DS.

Quote:

Tired of the horrendous poker games available for the DS (all flashy graphics and lousy functionality) I decided to write my own.

The whole driver behind wanting to play on the DS was to be able to play poker at lunchtime in an office environment, where cards and chips might be frowned upon 😀

The game currently supports No-Limit Texas Hold-Em for up to 6 players in wireless multiplayer mode or a 6 player Hold-Em or Omaha Hi ‘standalone’ mode where you play all 6 hands (good for debugging and kinda interesting as a simulator).

Pocket Diablo v1.0 (Beta) (PPC Game)

Diablo is a dark fantasy-themed action role-playing game developed by Blizzard North and released by Blizzard Entertainment on November 30, 1996.

Set in the fictional Kingdom of Khanduras (located in the Diablo series fantasy world of Sanctuary), Diablo has the player take control of a lone hero as he or she battles to rid the world of the eponymous Lord of Terror. Beneath the town of Tristram, the player journeys through sixteen dungeon levels to ultimately come face to face with Diablo and his demon minions.

This release is an initial Beta test release. There are probably some issues, and some content is missing.

All you need to do is copy the folder in the zip file onto your ppc (anywhere you like), then copy the diabloui.dll file from the Diablo CD into the ‘Diablo’ folder.
