OpenBOR v3.2223 (DC misc)

OpenBOR (Open Beats of Rage) is an open source engine to play Beats of Rage.

Beats of Rage is a freeware open source video game and moddable game engine made by Senile Team ( http://www.senileteam.com/beatsofrage.html ) and inspired by Sega’s classic Streets of Rage series. The term “moddable” means that the program allows users to create their own content, and thus their own beat-’em-up game, which is then called a “mod”.

Beats of Rage was first made available for download November 2003. It was not advertised in any way other than by word of mouth, yet it soon gained enormous popularity. OpenBOR is now managed by the guys at Lava Lit.

Changes:

All Crashes have been resolved.
All Memory leaks have been resolved
Sound issues resolved
Panel speed issues resolved

Thanks to http://www.dcemu.co.uk for the news.

Download from Lava-Lit (requires registration) – the PDRoms archive will update again with one of the next releases.

ScummVM v0.13.0 (DC misc)

ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!

Some of the adventures ScummVM supports include Adventure Soft’s Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2; Revolution’s Beneath A Steel Sky, Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2; Flight of the Amazon Queen; Wyrmkeep’s Inherit the Earth; Coktel Vision’s Gobliiins; Westwood Studios’ The Legend of Kyrandia and games based on LucasArts’ SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) system such as Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and more. You can find a thorough list with details on which games are supported and how well on the compatibility page. ScummVM is continually improving, so check back often.

Release notes:

As we turned to a 6 months release cycle, here is our newest and best ScummVM version for you!

A couple of new engines were added, and besides 2 Humongous Entertainment titles, we now support The 7th Guest and Bud Tucker in Double Trouble.

Among other notable things there is a completely new vector-based GUI, which is a merged work of our last year GSoC student Vicent Marti, as well as a General Main Menu which adds a common save/load interface to most of our engines, adding the much awaited Return to Launcher feature along the way. It was the work of another successful student, Chris Page.

A complete list of new games and features can be found in the release notes, and the latest ScummVM version itself (available for a large number of platforms as usual) is located at the downloads page.

Let’s play!

Changes:

New Games:
– Added support for The Legend of Kyrandia: Book Two: Hand of Fate.
– Added support for The Legend of Kyrandia: Book Three: Malcolm’s Revenge.
– Added support for Lost in Time.
– Added support for The Bizarre Adventures of Woodruff and the Schnibble.
– Added support for the PC version of Waxworks.
– Added support for the Macintosh version of I Have no Mouth, and I must Scream.
– Added support for Drascula: The Vampire Strikes Back.

General:
– Added CAMD MIDI driver for AmigaOS4.
– Revived the PS2 port (was already in 0.11.1 but was forgotten in the release notes).
– Plugged numerous memory leaks in all engines (part of GSoC’08 task),
– Added audio double buffering to the SDL backend, which fixes the problems with the MT-32 emulator on Mac OS X (for now only enabled on Mac OS X).

AGOS:
– Fixed crashes during certain music in Amiga versions of Elvira 1 and Simon the Sorcerer 1.
– Fixed palette issues in Amiga versions of Simon the Sorcerer 1.

Queen:
– Speech is played at the correct sample rate. (It used to be pitched a bit too low.)

SCUMM:
– Rewrote parts of Digital iMUSE, fixing some bugs.
– Rewrote the internal timer code, fixing some speed issues in e.g. COMI.
– Improved support for sound effects in Amiga version of Zak McKracken.
– Added support for mixed Adlib/MIDI mode in Monkey Island 1 (Floppy).

Dream Photo Manager v1.0.0 (Dreamcast Application)

Dream Photo Manager 1.0.0 a program that can be used to manage the images on a Dreameye camera. This coincides with the release of the new KallistiOS Dreameye driver in KOS SVN r626. As for what Dream Photo Manager does, it allows you to browse and delete images from the Dreameye. Since its use is confined to the Dreameye, it is pretty pointless if you do not have one.

Thanks to http://www.dcemulation.org and Maturion ( http://www.dev-szene.de ) for the dozens of headups…
