GP2X Wiz News
ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!
Some of the adventures ScummVM supports include Adventure Soft’s Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2; Revolution’s Beneath A Steel Sky, Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2; Flight of the Amazon Queen; Wyrmkeep’s Inherit the Earth; Coktel Vision’s Gobliiins; Westwood Studios’ The Legend of Kyrandia and games based on LucasArts’ SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) system such as Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and more. You can find a thorough list with details on which games are supported and how well on the compatibility page. ScummVM is continually improving, so check back often.
Release notes:
After finally finding a few hours to clean up code I have had laying around on my hard disk for months I have made up a public alpha release of ScummVM for the Wiz.
You can find all the info on my site including download links, setup info and known issues.
This really is an early alpha so don’t expect very much at this stage.
That said, for most old games it is already running quite well (comparable to the GP2X anyway).

OutcaST is an Atari ST emulator.
Changes:
audio is in
– it should throttle down to 60fps; I’d buggered something up in last one to make it slow.. unthrottled this is running crazy fast
– it will pick up notaz mmuhack kernel module if its present (not needed, but included in the zip)
– most menus are usable (a few are still scrolling too fast to use
– floppy access indicators are back and working

brakken has just published his review of the GP2X WiZ an open source portable video gaming and entertainment console. This smaller then the Nintendo DS console features playback of video, music, viewing pictures, reading text and voice recording. It also features an organic LED touch screen display, microphone, USB v2.0 port, 1GB of interal NAND and a lot more!
Also, unlike the “other” device it is available now and costs 1/3 of what the big “P” will cost. However, like any indie console it does have some faults. So why not head over to the review and check it out. Then when you’re done leave your comments in the discussion thread (linked in the review).
