Sterm v0.2 (GP2x Application)

Miyu has updated Sterm for the GP2x. It is a terminal emulation program with virtual keyboard input.

Original Author: jochang. I’ve just recompiled and changed it a bit.

Relevant changes to 0.1:
Cause the 1.2.0 firmware comes with a incompatible (to sterm 0.1) version of the SDL libs and I hate installing libs for such an essential program like a terminal anyway, I linked the binary staticly. This results in about 700kb extra size, but when you bricked and reinstalled your GP2X several times like I have, you`ll agree it is worth the pain.

Furthermore, the X Button now is equal to the SPACE key. One of the most forgotten mappings in 0.1

Outcast v003 (Atari ST emu for GP2x)

Skeezix has updated his Atari ST emulator Outcast to version 003. New in this version:

  • NEW: Virtual keyboard — needed for entering text or function keys etc of course, but also to get into a lot of games; the crack groups often put loader demos, or multiple games on a disk, and so you sometimes need to hit spacebar, or a number, of function key. Of course, some games require keyboard controls, too.
  • NEW: Input modes a little more defined
  • FIX: YM chipmusic is pretty good now, though sample playback is still asshat; I’ll work on that more. Always running out of time 😉
  • NOTE: Most of the START runtime menu should work fine now; CPU Mhz setting isn’t yet available, but throttle and frameskip and disk management and savestates and control modes should all be working!
  • CHG: Welcome screen text

GamePark Holding needs a GPL lesson (GP2x misc)

Bjimba posted an interesting article about GamePark Holdings and their attitude to release the Linux kernel source of the GP2x.

First impressions: I love this little unit. Runs a Linux 2.4 kernel, plays movies with mplayer, already has MAME ported to it… Really, it has everything in a handheld game/media machine that a hacker-in-the-old-meaning could want.Except for one thing. The kernel source code.
