ZXGP32 beta 3
A new version of the Spectrum emulator ZXGP32 has been released. Changes for this version are:- Started optimising code - Now runs in 66Mhz with no sound - Still needs 132Mhz to keep sound from dropping.- Selectable CPU speeds (66, 80, 120 or 132).- Tidied up sound - Sounds great thanks to Christian Nowak for his gpsoundbuf lib.- Filebrowser can now change directory, so snapshots can be stored anywhere.- Save state option added - This saves the complete memory, registers etc.- Automatic saving of settings for each game (saves both when the Filebrowser is activated or the emulator is reset). The following options are saved: CPU speed, Sound on/off, Button B mapping, Screen render mode.As not all the extended opcodes are fully emulated the emulator will now show a warning if an unemulated op-code is called. Feel free to e-mail me with any that you would like adding and which game is causing the problem.Downloads can be found on the homepagehere.
How to change clock speeds in GP32 FXE files
[nomod] has wrote an interesting guide on how to change the clock speed in FXE files. This for example would allow you to run Snes9xGP at 166Mhz instead of the standard 133Mhz. Before going any further you should consider that playing around with clock speeds may potentially damage your GP32. Neither GP32Emu or [nomod] accepts any responsibility for any damage as a result.Read the guide via our forumshere.
GP32 USB Mass Storage Build 9 – Emu version
FireFly released a new version of his USB Mass Storage program for the GP32. This version now has write support but only to a virtual smc in the GP32 memory. This is due to some problems writing to an actual SMC via the GP32. When trying the program and you access the drive on your PC dont worry about the message to format the drive, it will only format a virtual drive and not touch the actual smart media card. You can download this release from FireFly's homepagehere.

Darts GP32 and WinGP work in progress
I have had a bit more time recently to work on two of my projects Darts GP32 and WinGP. Heres some quick info on them both.Darts GP is currently being moved over to 16bit display. You can see on the screenshots that the menus are looking better as before the background images were looking grainy due to limited palettes. I have cleaned up the game routines so its easier adding new game types, theres now four games and I might add another two at a later stage. I havent updated the actual game graphics to 16bit yet as I need to redraw the dart board with more colors to make it look a bit more realistic. Gonna work on the game graphics next as it looks rubbish now :)WinGP has been nearly totally rewritten as its expanded from just a program launcher into a more feature packed program. Like Darts GP32, I have changed the display into 16bit so the program looks alot nicer now. So far the Start Menu part of the program is complete (screenshots just show Program Files at the moment). There is also a basic built-in text viewing program which I am currently working on (image viewing will be done as well). After this I will be working on a file manager style feature which will support File Associations, this can be used for example to load your ROMs in supported emulators or view images or text files etc using the above mentioned features. I am also planning some other nice features which will make WinGP more usefulthan a glorified program launcher.. you will have to wait and see what these features are though ;)Theres some screenshots to check out over atGP32Emu.
GPsop Released
Makanai let me know that he has released his new homegrown game GPsop. GPsop is a port ofSDL Sopwithwhich is a port of the original CGA version of Sopwith. The game is much like one of my favourite gamesHarrier Attackin which you must fly over the land shooting enemy planes and bombing buildings (see 15 days compo entry Air Rage for something similar). The binary and source code are available from the homepage athttp://www.makenai.net/gpsop/. If you can help Makanai with the clicking sound in the game please get in contact with him as he needs some assistance with fixing this.
GPChess v0.3
rcx2100 sent me the latest beta of his Chess game for the GP32. Heres some info from the readme:When you start, select either New Game, or Load Game. New Game will give you a list of things to select, select the values you want, then select Go! Load Game will load the game, and the level (and any other things like time in next versions) will be the same as it was when you saved it (if it is a save from a previous version, the level will be 4, the level the previous versions were on.) To move pieces, select it with the pointer, press a, then move to dest square, then press a. Press b to cancel the move. When you press start, you get a list of options, they should be obvious (remember, there is only one savespace, and you have to have the folder GPCHESS in GPMM to save)Download GPChess fromGP32Emu. Please give some feedback, bug reports etc via our forum posthere.
GPDoom v8
As mentioned yesterday on GP32Emu Craig and Rob were working on adding music to the GP32 port of Doom. If you visited the forums you could have got a test version in advance but now everyone can try the latest release. Here is whats new:- The classic Doom music is now supported thanks to Robert Brown!- The Doom sound menu can now be used to increase/decrease music and sound volume.- The sound bug should now be gone forever as this is a new sound engine, no clicking either :)- This version can only run in 133MHZ, but slower modes will return in later versions for battery life :)VisitGP32Emuto download the release. Please remember this is a beta version so if you have any problems please check the v8 forum post on our forumshereand see if your problem is mentioned, if not please report the error.
GPDoom v7
Here is the new version of Doom that I posted about on Friday on GP32Emu, please read the information and download the correct FXE as there are some problems with using it on GP32s with Multifirmware. Heres the details:*NOTE: IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS RUNNING DOOM2 GET THE MULTIFIRMWARE VERSION - It has all the optimisations removed but it works - quick fix, still60FPS.- Well, its 350% faster, good enough? Doom 2 should be 60fps you can even choose to go over that and have a blast at 80fps if you want to.- If anything slows down its just because its reading from the SMC.- The speed increase is of course because the previous versions were running at 40MHZ - you can now choose your CPU speed, the menu explains the advantages of each speed. Its defaulted to 133MHZ.- Unfortunately the GP32 sound bug has reared its head at 133mhz, thats why its a bit clicky.- However the horrible sound breaking randomly bug is fixed :)- Just a note on weapons changes - you may think pressing l/r and nothing happening is a bug - its similay that you don't have that weapon, just press again, if the next weapon up exists you will get it etc.Downloads of the new release can be found onGP32Emu. Feel free to discuss this new release via our forums posthere.
