atari2600land has posted an update of his Atari 2600 homebrew game “Jack and the Beanstalk” which is based upon a fairy tale with the same name.
Release notes from atari2600land:
Now with the freed up space of banks 1 & 2, I can now make level 1 even larger. Right now, it’s at 32 screens, which is a nice round number, bB coding speaking. I definitely can’t fit 64 screens for level 1, but level 1 is now definitely a lot bigger.
88 bytes left in bank 1 (title screen/level 1)
1,390 bytes left in bank 2 (level 1)
23 bytes left in bank 3 (levels 2 & 4)
5 bytes left in bank 4 (level 3)
1,720 bytes left in bank 5 (ending, game over, giant’s room)
1,089 bytes left in bank 6 (minigame)
4,052 bytes left in bank 7 (empty)
1,630 bytes left in bank 8 (inline 6lives_statusbar.asm)

Help Doris collect hearts, but watch out for the moving platforms! Also, don’t wait too much, or the heart will lose its energy and it will be game over!
Changes:
– the sound played when the heart is caught has been changed
– hearts loose their energy faster now (each level has its own rate)
– mirrored sprite when Doris faces left (thanks Wickeycolumbus )

The idea is this: Using Tetris-like blocks, fill in a square. To move the pieces around, use the joystick and to place one, use fire. To start over again, press the reset switch.
Release notes:
Added two new puzzles, #2 and #3, to get to them, at the title screen, press the select switch.

Release notes from atari2600land:
Another solution is to make the item bigger than a pfblock, which is what i’ve done here. If it’s out of reach now, remember that I’m redoing the playfields at the end, and I’ll make sure to not have 2 pfblocks be next to each other horizontally and vertically.

Release notes from atari2600land:
I tried to make there be a bonus item appear after you hit a troll, but if it gets in the playfield a whole bunch of times before it finally lands in a place where there’s no playfield, it flashes like crazy, trying to get to a place where there’s no playfield. If you can think of a way to make it stop doing that, please tell me, otherwise I won’t implement it.

Added a simple song to the minigame (I am not the best when it comes to 2600 music) and perfected the code for it.
