Maids and Elevators (12-04-2007) (Update 2) (A2600 Game)

Maids and Elevators has been udpated. You are a maid, you need to get to the top of the hotel using the stairs – and don’t get hit by the elevators!

Changes:

Changed background colors to be a bit darker, more closely approximating what color actual hotel decor might be. In my mind, anyway.

Also: elevators’/stairs’ color changes every level. Almost. It’s a 10-level pattern, where the first and last level (in the pattern) are the same. I.e., Levels 1, 10, 11, 20, 21, 30, etc. are white.

Gosub (11-04-2007) (A2600 Game)

In Gosub you have to guide a submarine to a treasure without touching the walls.

Author note:

This latest version makes the subs face the right way in the mini-game. Am I anywhere close to being done? Suggestions/compliments/mini-game secondary tracks welcome. Thanks for the compliments thus far.

Maids and Elevators (11-04-2007) (A2600 Game)

Maids and Elevators has been udpated. You are a maid, you need to get to the top of the hotel using the stairs – and don’t get hit by the elevators!

Changes:

-rock solid 270 scanlines now
-toyed with adding the title to the top of the screen but there isn’t room and I didn’t like the way it looked. Switched gears and added copyright/level # to the bottom: Copyright will show until the first game is started, thereafter it will show what level you are on (or were on when your game ended).
-tweaked difficulty a bit. Made the elevators a hair smaller and the maid a hair faster. Also changed initial elevator speeds for Novice and Normal difficulty levels.

The Core (A2600 Demo)

“The Core” is an Atari 2600 Demo released at Breakpoint 2007. It’s recommended to watch this demo on a real Atari 2600 or using Z26. The demo is said to have the first native ‘speech synth’ for the Atari 2600.

Paladin (08-04-2007) (A2600 Game)

Paladin is a “Telengard” style game by s0c7 for the Atari 2600.

Changes:

– Bugs (probably). I haven’t had much time to playtest this. Please report any you may find.
– Hitting fire in a non-combat situation will bring up the magic menu (assuming you have enough spell points). Note: The only place this won’t work is in the up/down stairways. Only the healing spells will be available.
– The stop time spell works now. Time will stop for up to 3 of your turns (you will get 3 turns before the monster fights back). If you select evade, you will automatically evade him. If you attack him, you will always land a hit. The monster is frozen for that time period. If you evade or kill the monster before the 3 turns is up time will return to normal.
– Changed the sprite color slightly when you are on the magic menu. Trying to make it just different enough to notice without being distracting.
– Added a attack posture for the monsters. Basically they move their arms or whatever. Just putting it in place for later. I’ll be switching over to espire8’s graphics once the core game is complete.

Paladin (01-04-2007) (A2600 Game)

This is a Telengard style game. The working title is Paladin.

espire8 has hacked the original homebrew, which is currently under development, to add more sprites/enemies.

Some notes from the author:

I looked at the code and found room for 15 monster sprites and 3 color tables for the current number that’s playable so far. I figure one different monster for each of the 10 dungeon levels and having 3 different frames for each; 1 attacking and a 2-frame animated stand by (between turns in battles). The original 3 monsters that were in there had repeated sprites for up to Lv 5 and only those will show up at the moment. I put in place the dwarf, goblin and dragon though they are still static; I did however animated the knight somewhat using the repeated frames for HP up to 16.

Chetiry (28-03-2007) (A2600 Game Source-Code)

Zach doesn’t have enough time to finish his game …, therefore he has released the source code in the hope some other coder will finish the project. It’s a Non-Infringing Russian Block Game 😉

Unfortunately, it looks like I’m not going to have much time for Atari programming this year. I’m posting the source to the demo, in case anyone wants to pick it up. There are two source codes in the zip. One is playable but uses RAM+ bankswitching (same demo as posted earlier), and the other uses standard memory, but is unplayable. Also one uses PHP and the other uses SHX for clearing VBLANK. There are a few notes provided on the pros and cons of each approach.

Maybe I’ll get it back to it later, but in case I don’t I hereby release this code for other programmers. I trust that if anyone finishes it, they will give credit where it is due.
