Will is working on an adventure/RPG style game for Atari 2600 named “Dragon Attack”. The game is yet in early stages.
Release notes:
Hello everyone!
A while back on an Indenture thread I had posted a possible 2600 asm kernel that could be used to create asymmetrical playfields used by Indenture.
I’ve been playing around with it for a while, and have actually got it to the point where it supports not only asymmetrical playfields, but also multiple-color playfields and 2-scanline-resolution support for missile0 and missile1. What this means is that I can create a new version of Adventure that adds fire-breathing dragons, castle moats that need to be crossed with a bridge, and tons of other neat things.
Here are some screenshots and an NTSC binary of what I have so far. The binary is just a static frame, there’s no player or dragon movement coded yet. I just wanted to show that this is actually doable on the 2600, and not just a mockup.
What I eventually plan to do is incorporate:
– all 31 of the original rooms from Adventure
– 32 of my favorite rooms from Indenture, including the yellow maze, orange “ATARI” maze, and the green and silver castles.
– 34 original rooms
I’ll also be including the shield, flashlight (possibly reimagined as a torch), blue balloon, and a handful of rooms from my Duck Attack! homebrew.
Note that this isn’t a hack of Adventure (although I’ve got nothing against Adventure hacks, obviously); it’s a complete rewrite from scratch (although I’ll probably pull in some routines from Duck Attack! when appropriate – e.g. the fire-breathing logic.) Nonetheless, the basic gameplay should feel very familiar once it’s done.
I’ll post updates here as it progresses.

Duck Attack’s premise is simple: Collect radioactive duck eggs for points while avoiding giant, mutant and fire-breathing ducks.
Changes/Release notes:
Found a bug that was preventing the recharging station and warp of death background sounds from triggering. Fixed version attached: v0.26.

You are a fighter pilot and you have to stop a invasion from sea. First, you have to fight through the air defense and shoot down the enemy fighters, if the anti-aircraft fire starts you will have to attack the ship. If the cockpit gets red, you are under attack.

Latest version attached: v0.24.
Mostly behind-the-scenes changes this time, partly to ensure 100% stable scanline counts. Added a “fast-forward” feature that lets you skip the “Level completed” and “Level start” screens by pressing the fire button when they appear.
As always, please let me know if you see any bugs, or have any other comments or suggestions.

Release notes:
I got bored, so I added a little demo sequence that comes on after all the letters fall into place on the title screen. To exit the demo and return back to the title screen, press fire.

Duck Attack’s premise is simple: Collect radioactive duck eggs for points while avoiding giant, mutant and fire-breathing ducks.
Changes/Release notes:
Hello everyone!
Here’s the latest version: v0.11.
This has a new feature for AtariVox and SaveKey users (and Stella users too): You can save your game and return to it later. This is handy if you’ve reached level 14 or so and don’t want to lose your place, but need to go do something else. (Like play Juno First for a few hours.) You can load your game exactly where you left off when you return.
To save your game, go to the egg shelf room (screenshot attached) and press the Fire button on the joystick. If the program was able to save the game successfully, it will move you to the score room. If it was unsuccessful, it will move you to the credits room. It will be unsuccessful if you don’t have an AtariVox or SaveKey attached (or if you’re running in an emulator and don’t have the game properties configured to use an AtariVox or SaveKey as the P1 controller.)
To load your game, start a new game, go to the egg shelf room and press Reset on the console. If the program was able to load the game successfully, it will move you to the score room; if not, to the credits room.
Special thanks to stephena and especially cd-w for the help in getting the AtariVox interface working correctly.
There is a known issue where the screen will roll while it’s reading from or writing to the save file. That’s on the to-fix list.
I’ve got some more neat stuff on the way for the next version, so stay tuned…

Release notes:
I sped the game up a little. Level 9 is the fastest it can go without it being impossible to move the pieces in time. I’ve also added a nifty (IMO) feature: If you toggle the color switch to black and white at the title screen, you can play a game in black and white! I thought, since you can do it in GoSub, why not this game, too?
