Titan Diamonds v1.0 (A2600 Game)

Fort Apocalypse is a pretty fast guy, if it comes to updates. Titan Diamonds v1.0 is here.

Story: In the year 2574 a lot of things have changed. Humans have colonized our solar system and the O81b “flying saucer”is the primary means of getting around town. However, some things don’t change, specifically the need for diamonds. In 2574, the largest known diamond in the solar system was found in the moon, Titan. But in the process of trying to mine it, the 2 petaton atomic bomb used was overkill and scattered diamonds across the planet and across the solar system. You are one of the many that have equipped their O81b’s with rock blasters and set off to mine for the diamonds. But watch out, the explosion also caused a lot of meteorites! Good luck diamond hunter, and get rich!

Release notes:

fixed things like diamond drop, added heavier gravity to level 2 and 3

Virtual Dieter (A2600 Game)

A new game from atari2600land is out: Virtual Dieter.

Dodge the food coming at you. If you touch a food, your stomach grows bigger. You get one point for each group of food you let pass to the other side. The game ends when your stomach gets to the other side of the screen.

Omicron 2k (13-01-2008) (A2600 Game)

Seemo has released a brandnew Atari 2600 homebrew game called Omicron. It’s pretty tiny with 2k in size only.

Release notes:

Hi,
here’s my take on the ‘hostile playfield’ theme, that has been discussed in the ‘2600 mockups wanted’ thread.

The game supports the AtariVox/SaveKey units for hi-score load/save functionality.

Instructions:

– Console Controls
Reset: starts a new game / ends the current game
Select : if you turn the 2600 on while pressing select, the hi-score on the savekey/atarivox is reset to 0
Colour/BW: before turning the 2600 on, set it to Colour for NTSC colors, BW for PAL colors

– During play
Move with the joystick in port 1, FIRE rotates the direction of fire by 90 degrees.
Pay attention to the ‘full’ square, it will show you where the enemy will start growing.

– Score
You get 1 point for each element of the enemy that you hit

– Game Over
Game ends when the enemy touches you

Enjoy !
Simone 🙂

Jack and the Beanstalk (Build 2) (A2600 misc)

atariland2600 has posted a progress build of “Jack and the Beanstalk”.

Release notes:

Added a cut-scene between levels 1 & 2, even though I’m nowhere close to being done with designing levels for level 1, therefore, the only way to see the cutscene is by pressing reset, preferrably at the title screen. In the cut-scene (Jack just got home), Jack’s mother throws the beans out the house window. Night falls, and up grows a beanstalk. The sun rises and then level 2 begins (I haven’t done any programming for level 2 besides putting in the first screen’s playfield.) Hope you like it. Also, can someone please design a one-color troll for use in this game?

Jack and the Beanstalk (Build 1) (A2600 misc)

atariland2600, one of the restless coders at the Atariage.com webboards, is working on a new project, called “Jack and the Beanstalk”.

The very first binary file which has three screens of the village to go through is out. Help designing level 1 screens would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to follow the development of an Atari 2600 game you might follow the release thread carefully.

Incoming v1.0 (Beta 6) (A2600 Game)

Ben Larson released a new Atari 2600 homebrew game to the public.

Here is what he wrote:

After many years of being sidetracked doing other stuff (getting married, moving, grad school, getting java certified, taking up other hobbies, getting sidetracked ‘playing’ rather than programming), I decided to get back to do some atari 2600 programming and finally finish my ancient and dusty game ‘Incoming!’ once and for all. I’m committed to finishing it this time around.

So without further ado, here’s the latest beta version. I’ve added moving clouds, reworked the tank graphics to give it a little more cartoony feel, made the wind more realistic (i.e. using a real X-vector deceleration now instead of just modifying the initial X vector), fixed some bugs, etc.

Personally I think the wind is a bit too strong now, but you guys can tell me what you think. The computer AI isn’t all that sophisticated and seems to struggle now in high wind / high elevation situations…

Ben

P.S. also, sorry for no PAL version yet. i’m sorry, es tut mir leid, lo siento, and je suis desolee.

Blue Screen of Death (A2600 misc)

“Blue Screen of Death” bounces the Windows flag around the screen for a while, and then eventually you get “the blue screen of death.”

Delta Force Sniper v0.5 (A2600 Game)

Fort Apocalpyse has updates his Atari 2600 game “Delta Force Sniper”.

Changes:

* done – Variable speed: Speed up the cursor until it gets close to the target, then slow it down slightly for more precision. It’s how Sega made House of the Dead 3 work without a light gun.
* done – level 2 and higher (but no jacket) – Headshots: I found I was aiming right between where the eyes would be, even if it cost me more time. I think it’s a human instinct. If you can kill the guy by shooting anywhere else, make a head shots only stage, where the bad guy has a vest.
* done – level 3 and 6 – Selectable variation: One bullet game: Make it count.
* done – level 5 – 7 – Selectable variation: Wind. Fight the elements – try to steady your hand.

Delta Force Sniper v0.3 (A2600 Game)

Fully functioning game. Very loosely based on the description of the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment – Delta (a.k.a. Delta Force) snipers as described at the bottom of p.116 of Inside Delta Force by Eric L. Haney.

Move the target off the screen to view the four sides of the building that you are sniping (white=front, red=building’s left or sniper’s right, black=back, green=building’s right or sniper’s left). You must quickly find the target (randomly placed on one of the sides) and shoot it, which is not easy. If you don’t shoot the target in time, the target moves and your life meter decrements (this symbolizes the amount of time you have to terminate the target). If you shoot 2 targets you get to level 2, 4 for level 4, etc. Targets move more quickly in later levels. You also can move and then press the button to move quickly (unless your target is locked on, and then the fire button is only for firing).
